Carmel McConnell

Board member

carmel McConnell is the founder of Magic Breakfast and the Managing Director of Magic Outcomes Ltd. She was the New Statesman/Edge Social Entrepreneur of the Year. 2008

In November 2007 Carmel was named on the Evening Standard “London’s 1,000 most influential people” and was included on the Observer “Future 500” list of UK innovators. 

Carmel was a founder Board member of the School Food Trust, is Board member of Social Enterprise London and Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. She has written four books on development and social change, published by the FT/Pearson, including business best seller Change Activist” which has been translated into five languages. She  holds an MBA from City University London and is a much in demand public speaker on the subject of the role of business in leading social change ,

While researching Change Activist   shocked to learn that 1 in 4 English primary school children start the school day too hungry to learn,  she founded children’s food aid charity Magic Breakfast, (www.magicbreakfast.com). Magic Breakfast delivers free, healthy breakfast food and nutrition education to primary schools in greatest need. It currently feeds 2,000 children each morning. Magic Breakfast won the Guardian Charity of the Year award in 2005.

To part fund Magic Breakfast, Carmel founded a social enterprise, Magic Outcomes (www.magicoutcomes.com). Magic Outcomes offers professional leadership training and team development, based in primary schools, with all profits to Magic Breakfast. Clients include Pearson, BT, Unilever, National School of Government and Quaker/Tropicana. Magic Outcomes won the Caroline Walker Trust Social Enterprise Award in 2005.
