Future Jobs Fund

London’s Future 500 was SEL’s jobs initiative, supporting 500 young Londoners into new jobs within social enterprise.

Funded by the Department for Work and Pensions through the Future Jobs Fund (FJF) and run by SEL, the scheme created opportunities for young people to start work and gain vital skills and experiences.

The coalition government axed FJF and an evaluation and cost–benefit analysis is now under way after calls for a replacement scheme.

SEL fully supports the revival of the FJF model as it has been so positive for both FJF employees and employers with initial results reporting over 70 percent of young people staying in their jobs.

Employers are helping to create the social entrepreneurs of the future by taking on talented young people who lacked the opportunity to fulfil their potential. Salaries were fully subsidised for a six-month period by the programme, paperwork and process was as seamless as possible and both employees and employers were offered practical support.
