Advisory services

SEL’s Advisory Services aim to build capacity, spread best practice and create a support infrastructure for social enterprises.

Some are publicly-funded and so are available to qualifying organisations at no cost, such as the London Advance programme. SEL’s social enterprise consultancy services are suitable for more established third sector organisations that require bespoke support to help with their development. In this section you can read about the social enterprises that have used SEL’s consultancy services, as well as an example of the process we undertake when working with our consultancy clients. If you are interested in discussing your requirements in more detail please contact our Senior Business Manager, Lesley Miller.

One of the biggest challenges for social enterprises can be measuring and communicating the social benefits they deliver. The Social Enterprise to Social IMPact Measurement for Local Economies (SIMPLE) project comprises of a training and toolkit package to enable organisations to assess and communicate their social impact.

SEL is a partner in an initiative to help refugees start businesses. Refugees are up to six times more likely to be unemployed than non-refugees - a huge waste of untapped potential. Like many disadvantaged groups, refugees starting up in business face a number of barriers. Refugee community organisations do not have the necessary skills to provide basic business advice and mainstream advisers are not sufficiently aware of the barriers and how to offer appropriate support. Refugees into business was set up to address some of these problems. Led by the Refugee Council, the Refugee Enterprise Partnership was formed with a number of partner agencies to develop and implement a proposal to assist refugees to set up or sustain their own businesses.
