Social Enterprise London launches manifesto for social enterprise

Social Enterprise London, the leading social enterprise support and development agency in the capital today launched Vote Social Enterprise 2010: a manifesto for social enterprise.

The manifesto, which has been produced following extensive consultation with SEL’s 2,000 members, identifies five key asks which the London social enterprise movement puts to politicians of all parties to answer in order to secure the social enterprise vote. Click here to download the full copy.

The asks are:

1. To commit to a social enterprise hub at the Olympic Park

2. To foster a new system of social business support

3. To capture the added value social enterprises create through the public procurement process

4. To support frontline public sector staff to establish their own social enterprises

5. To actively support and advocate for the social enterprises in your area

Social Enterprise London Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton said:

“We are asking the next government to commit to undertaking five practical steps to support and enable social enterprise to play a key part in our economic recovery during the next parliament.

Let’s be clear, in an era of reduced public spending and with the need to reform public services and regenerate the economy, social enterprise will be needed more than ever. All three main parties have committed to supporting us, and in our manifesto we lay out how they can do it in practice.”

The manifesto is being launched online here, and on Twitter under the hashtag #VoteSocEnt10. We are asking those who support our vision for London to pledge their support, and to send the manifesto to their parliamentary and local candidates asking them to do the same.
