Future Jobs Fund: 'London's Future 500'
SEL is seeking to collaborate with social enterprises and socially responsible businesses across the capital to create 'London's Future 500' - 500 jobs and training opportunities in social enterprise for young people from some of the hardest to reach groups across London.
London's Future 500 is a bid to the Future Jobs Fund, a fund created by the Department of Work and Pensions to create new jobs for long term unemployed, particularly young people.
Bids preferably need to create a minimum of thirty new jobs, which is beyond the capacity of many social enterprises. To enable social enterprises to access the fund SEL is coordinating one large bid, within which social enterprises will be able to contribute as many jobs as their capacity allows.
London's Future 500 is far more than simply a job placement programme; SEL is aiming to create a real culture of social enterprise, and will provide a fully tailored service to all participants. Details of the programme includes:
- Journey starts with a motivational ‘inspire’ event
- Continues with a 6 month mentoring and support programme
- Improving hard and soft skills, confidence and practical work experience
- Regular reviews on progress, a professional reference and a record of performance
- 200 jobs from October 2009
- Remaining 300 before October 2010
- National Minimum Wage and NI will be passed on
- Programme design and partner selection
- Programme management and administration
- Recruitment and brokerage of work placements
The deadline for our submission to the Fund is 30 June (next Tuesday), so in order to make our application as strong as possible we need you to respond to the following questions by tomorrow afternoon at the latest (Friday 26 June).
- How many jobs will be available from October 2009?
- A brief description of the roles you are offering
- Do you intend to add to the funds through match funding? If so, please give details of amount per beneficiary.
- How will the job created provide community benefit?
- Will the job created be based in the environmental sector, or directly provide environmental benefit?
You can be indicative in your responses, and you don't need to go into too much detail, but in order to take part in the bid we do need more written information from potential employers.
