Social Enterprise: Transforming the Lives of Londoners
Social Enterprise: Transforming Lives Of Londoners (SETLL) – a unique programme that brings together the individual expertise of social enterprise specialist agencies to provide a one-stop shop for social and community enterprises.
On offer is a programme of co-ordinated specialist support to organisations and individuals across all London boroughs, over four years 2008 - 2011.
Services range from information sharing, and open access events through to intensive support (up to 5 days).
The programme is being delivered in partnership with 4 organisations with SEL leading the partnership:
• Social Enterprise London (SEL) – promoting best practice and skills development for social enterprises; also acting as lead partner for SETLL
• Development Trust Association (DTA) – leading resource on developing and managing community assests
• London Rebuilding Society (LRS) – providers of community finance packages and support for accessing finance
• Training for Life (TfL) – experts in physical asset acquisition and development support to social enterprises
• School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) – providers of training and support for fledgling social enterpreneurs
The Services
The partnership offers support and training services through the following four key service areas:
1. Helping London borough councils to better support their local social enterprises
• SEL – Management of the LA Connect network of local authority officers engaged in social enterprise development;
• DTA - Advise and support for local authority officers on developing and implementing asset transfer strategies;
2. Training and support for accessing and managing finances and asset based capital
• SEL - Introductory sessions on principles of social enterprise and sustainability for small community and social enterprises
• TfL - Specialist asset based capital support including online-business toolkit Blueprint for Enterprise: The aim of this Blueprints tool is to help guide those who are developing an asset base, analysing your competitive position, auditing and utilisation of resources and more. • LRS - Specialist finance support for social and community enterprises including investment readiness toolkit, on-line surgeries and e-support, master classes and 1-2-1 sessions
• DTA - Specialist support to new community enterprises arising out of asset transfer and procurement contract initiatives through 1-2-1s and specialist workshops
3. Support for voluntary and community organisations (VCOs) developing social enterprise services
• SEL - Promoting the social enterprise model to VCOs through training events and intensive 1-2-1 support
• LRS - Preparation and support to develop 4 Mutual Aid Fund recipients from BAME/refugee based self-help membership organisations
• DTA - Increase understanding of the asset transfer process within VCOs through training seminars
4. Training and support for new and fledgling social enterprises
• SSE - Support fledgling entrepreneurs through provision of a 12 month training programme and on-line support
• SEL - Support to fledgling BAME entrepreneurs through Leadership and Management seminars
